Accountancy or accounting is the art of communicating financial information about a business entity to users such as shareholders and managers. The communication is generally in the form of financial statements that show in money terms the economic resources under the control of management.

Such financial information is primarily used by managers, lenders, investors, tax authorities, regulators, and other decision makers to make resource allocation decisions between and within companies, organizations, and public agencies. It involves the process of recording, verifying, and reporting of the value of assets, liabilities, income, and expenses in the books of account (ledger) to which debit and credit entries (recognizing transactions) are chronologically posted to record changes in value (see bookkeeping). Accounting has also been defined by the AICPA as "The art of recording, classifying, and summarizing in a significant manner and in terms of money, transactions and events which are, in part at least, of financial character, and interpreting the results thereof."

I am planning to study masters in accounting from australia. What are the job prospects post completion?
Q. I am planning to study masters in accounting from australia. I do not have any hardcore accounting background however have studied basic accounting in school and college. In addition i have over 5 years of work experience however all of it has been with the customer services industry. I am a bit sceptical about finding a job and what kind of jobs will I be able to get upon completion of this course. As this course is on the shortage occupations list in australia, my goal is to stay back in australia and work in the finance sector. What kind of jobs will I be able to get after this course and after a few years can I move towards investment banking ? Also, what other credits or subjects do I need to study to become a chartered accountant?… [cont.]

A. Getting a masters in accounting is a great idea. As far as what you need to become a chartered accountant, feel free to ask one of your professors when you start classes. It's different in every country so it's best to check with someone who holds that position in your own country. Remember accounting isn't just keeping the books straight, it's also being able to help the customer or client make decisions to make their financial matters more efficient; it's not only about helping them out with their taxes but showing them a way to minimize taxes in upcoming years legally. I do happen to know that there is a general shortage of business professors. Many older professors are retiring and there's a big age gap among these professors. At… [cont.]

What schools offer a forensic accounting masters?
Q. I know that Florida Atlantic offers a masters degree in Forensic Accounting, but I would like to know, what other schools offer this or a similar masters program? A list would be great, because so far all I've found are regular Accounting masters programs, with no specific concentration. Thanks!

A. I hope this is in someway helpful. I've been unable to find any Forensic Accounting Master's, aside from the one you've mentioned. However, you don't require a Master's in Forensic Accounting if you're interesting in that field. Most forensic accountants that I've spoken with are C.P.A's within large firms. I'm Canadian, so I'm unsure which universities offer that specific program. Some other Master's concentrations you could look into are MBA's in Fraud Examination (I think Argosy offers it); or look into Strayer's different MBA concentrations (if I recall they had quite a few, perhaps even forensic accounting)/ But, I'm guessing you're aware of the universities which offer MBA's in Accounting, and are only looking for Forensic… [cont.]

What types of accounting reports are likely to be most useful to the resturant managers?
Q. What types of accounting reports are likely to be most useful to the resturant managers? And what areas would be most important to them? explain. How might this differ from a manufacturing company manager's reports and analysis?
Asked by truckin_90 - Mon Apr 20 16:48:54 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'd want your typical financial statements, Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow. But for a restaurant manager, the P&L and the Cash Flow would be more significant I'd think. Manufacturing companies are probably more concerned with materials, raw, work-in-progress, and finished goods, wheras in a restaurant the manager might be more concerned with wether or not he has enough free cash to order more ingredients.
